All Netcompany employees are involved in the development of AI

case 6. december 2023

Netcompany promotes social learning and collaboration across departments and countries.

As one of the largest IT companies in Denmark, AI plays an increasingly important role at Netcompany - both in terms of helping customers and partners get started with AI in a strategic and secure way, but just as much to improve and streamline processes internally and help employees. This places great demands on management and employees, so to prepare for the battle for the best workforce, Netcompany has always cultivated a strong learning culture where employees are expected to share their knowledge and act as mentors for each other. Experienced employees act as role models and internal trainers, and there is a focus on hands on learning and knowledge sharing using internal platforms. The company also promotes social learning and collaboration across departments and countries.

"We place great emphasis on our employees' development and we ensure that our employees receive challenges, sparring and training throughout their career at Netcompany. We do this because we know that it means a lot for both the individual employee's well-being and for the quality of the work we deliver to our private and public customers. We offer all employees a customized training program in our own Netcompany Academy with various seminars and courses, all of which are tailored to our methodology and the skills required to deliver complex IT solutions to our customers", says Caroline Riisager Rust, HR Manager for Netcompany in Denmark.

When it comes to recruitment, Netcompany doesn't have a fixed template that future employees must fit into.

"We hire from the best talent from a wide range of education and experience. It's not specific AI coding skills that matter to us when you come out of education. What is important to us is that our employees have basic technical skills, motivation and above all an understanding and insight into the potential of AI and that they have the desire and ability to acquire new knowledge", says Caroline Riisager Rust.

Learning by doing An example of Netcompany's approach to internal learning in product development is its approach to AI. In the first half of 2023, Netcompany began internally testing an AI solution that can bring AI into play in a safe and responsible way. After nearly 8,000 employees had used the tool for everything from navigating complicated business documentation, writing quotes and contracts, to generating and quality-assuring code, Netcompany launched the AI solution Easley in November. Named after NASA's pioneering programmer Annie Easley, Easley enables companies across the entire organization to get started with generative AI with one centralized solution that protects customer data security. Easley can be used for a wide range of purposes and improves overall productivity and efficiency.

"It's important that companies in the early stages of generative AI don't tie themselves to specific vendors' algorithms and at the same time ensure that they are in control of their data and can document how they use it with AI. That's exactly the philosophy behind Easley", says André Rogaczewski, CEO of Netcompany, after the successful testing of Easly within the company.

Easley is not just a chat tool. At Netcompany, it's already coded in as an integrated part of the core systems to ensure AI support and automation of manual processes. Easley also makes companies independent of specific AI models, so they can be easily replaced with others as the models mature and evolve over the coming months and years.

"At Netcompany, we use Easley with both GPT-4 and our own algorithms tailored to our needs. This enables our employees to streamline the quality control process of what we do. And since we as a company have full control over all data, we won't lose anything by changing model suppliers in the future", says André Rogaczewski.

At Netcompany, the AI strategy is anchored in senior management, and employees are not just encouraged to use AI. All employees are expected to use the technology where it makes sense. Netcompany tries to use AI as much as possible in the company's business processes if it improves quality or efficiency and can be done in a safe and responsible way. This is what concrete strategy and guidelines are based on - closely linked to Netcompany's ethical standards. Ultimately, it's about maximizing the potential of the technology while maintaining the quality and values of the company.
